What Kind of Services do Banquet Halls Provide?

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

The use of banquets has become a popular way of holding such large events as a wedding reception. When you are beginning to plan for the big day, one of the first items on the wedding plan is finding the right banquet hall for the reception. There are many questions you will have such as large a hall do you need? Once you have settled on the size, you will need to know what services the hall will provide to make your wedding day memorable and glitch-free.

Most banquet halls will have a wedding specialist on staff. Spend some time discussing your dreams and let the specialist guide you through the process. The wedding planner will help you determine the size of hall you need, and work out a menu. You will want to consider the size of dance floor, stage, and head table when deciding if the room will work for your affair.

A wedding coordinator at a banquet hall can recommend everything from flowers, limousine service, cakes, balloons, DJ, bands, photographers, videographers, invitations, matches, napkins, tux rentals and dresses.

Part of the planning at the hall will include choice of linens, chair covers, ceiling decorations, specialty lighting. The banquet hall will provide a podium and microphone. A color theme will be chosen and followed through to all your specified details. As well, the centerpieces and candelabra will be provided. Of course, catering is also part of the service offered at banquet halls. Many banquet hall service providers will offer a sampling to the bride and groom when they are making menu choices. Most banquet halls will offer many options, from casual cocktails and finger foods to formal sit-down multi-course dinners. Some offer printed menu cards at each table. Hors d’oeuvres served during the reception line are an option offered by most halls. Champagne for the toasts can be included in wedding packages at many halls, as well as late-night coffee and tea service. Some offer hot towels after the meal.

The banquet hall provides professional wait staff to ensure that the meal is served and cleared smoothly and with great care. The hall also provides china and silver so that the meal is presented most elegantly. The hall will provide coat check service, and bar set-up and attendants. They also provide ample parking to accommodate all your guests.

Some banquet halls have a wedding chapel on the premises. They will organize the music, flowers and seating in the chapel. Other halls provide a grand piano and experienced piano player to maintain an ambiance for your guests throughout the reception. Other banquet halls have a bridal suite attached which is a room with an ensuite bath in which the happy couple can rest, refresh, and find a few calm moments. Other banquet halls will provide airport shuttle service for out-of-town guests. Some banquet halls have gardens that provide beautiful backdrops for photos of the wedding party. Banquet halls attached to a hotel often offer rooms to the bride and groom, and wedding guests, at a discount.

There are many choices of venue for your wedding. When considering which banquet hall to choose, keep in mind your own personal tastes, which space feels comfortable to you, which options offered are important, and how it all fits your wedding budget. Renting a banquet hall will make your joyous occasion even more wonderful.

The History Of The Hybrid Vehicle

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Just where did a hybrid car get it’s origins? Read on to find out. Hybrid cars are very popular to modern car buyers and there are many reasons why that should be. But before you even think about choosing a hybrid vehicle to purchase, you might want to know a little bit about the history of the hybrid first.

It is surprising, but hybrid cars were around even before gas-powered cars. In about the year 1665, a Jesuit priest by the name of Ferdinand Verbeist began making plans for a new type of vehicle. That vehicle or cart would be very simple, nothing complex. Simple was all he was interested in.

So Ferdinand designed a car that would have four wheels and would run only on steam. It took about fifteen years of work for Ferdinand to go through with his plan. He laboured to perfect his dream car. But no one knows if he ever finished because there is no evidence that his concept ever came into existence.

Then in 1769, a man by the name of Nicholas Cugnot developed a carriage that was driven by steam. This carriage did in fact work, and it could go at six miles per hour. This project was great, but it was difficult to get the amount of steam needed that would allow the car to go any significant distance.

A break through in hybrid car design finally came when Robert Anderson developed an electrically powered car in 1839. It was the first of its breed and was built in Scotland.

This type of electric car was a highly applauded innovation of its time. But, the only problem was that it was very difficult to replenish the car’s battery. Some pioneers did come after Anderson, but they had the same problem of getting the battery recharged easily.

Eventually, in the year 1898, Porsche developed an electric and fuel combination combustion engine that was the first of its kind. The car was called the Lohner Electric Chaise and it could go for up to 40 miles just using its batteries.

Within a short space of time, pioneers combined both gas and a battery powered engines to become what would turn into today’s hybrid car. In 1999, Honda made a leap into the US market. It brought out the Honda Insight, which was a lightweight two-door hybrid vehicle. Since then, hybrid vehicles have been evolving and improving into what we see on the market today. Hybrid cars are no longer just for the techies who think it’s nice to combine battery and liquid fuel to get them where they need to go. Hybrid cars started out simple, and they still are quite simple today.

Nowadays hybrid cars are becoming more and more popular as people are getting to understand them better. In the 21st century, hybrids saw a big boom in sales after the Toyota Prius came on the streets. It was the first hybrid with four doors that was marketed in the USA.

Then, Ford’s Escape hybrid became the very first SUV hybrid ever made. So there, you have it, the history of the hybrid vehicle, today’s modern car.

Following on the list of hot honeymoon destinations is Bora Bora Lagoon Resort in Bora Bora, French Polynesia. This location is coveted for its super-private bungalows that are perched on stilts over the crystal-clear waters. For the ultimate in luxury, couples can escape to a private island for their very own BBQ prepared by a personal chef.

Next on the list are locations in Caneel Bay in St. John and the Grand Hotel in Florence, Italy, but let’s skip over those to discuss Amankila in Mangiss, Bali, Indonesia. The Travel Channel rates this as fifth on its list because of its views, culture and the fact that you can book a suite with your own private pool. How’s that for romance?

Following Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in Canada, the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, holds the number two spot. Not only does Las Vegas offer the desert heat most of the year, but it’s “sin city” for a reason – there’s plenty of hot nightclubs and scandalous activities to celebrate your new marriage.

Rounding out the list, the number one hot honeymoon destination according to the Travel Channel is Camino Real Acapulco Diamante in Mexico. So what makes this worthy of the number one hot honeymoon destination? The nightlife in Acapulco combined with the ideal temperature, which hovers in the 80s year-round. Newlywed couples are sure to find this location to be as hot as they desire.

Ocracoke Is Stop #1 For Creative Family Beach Vacations!

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Do you remember the television show from the 1960’s called “The Andy Griffith Show”? It centered around Andy, a sheriff in the small town of “Mayberry”, and his family and friends and the wonderful times that they all had together. When we look at this tv show now a days we long for the “simpler time”, when life was slower, and people seemed to care for each other. While this is a fictional TV show, there is a place that certainly reminds us of “Mayberry”…it’s Ocracoke Beach. Located in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, it’s a great place for your family beach vacations. In this article we will describe some of the features of Ocracoke, and why we think it should be on your list of “great places to visit”…

While North Carolina has marched on in time…Ocracoke still maintains a bit of it’s “Ode to Days Gone By”. Why is this? One of the major reasons could be the fact that it’s a lot harder to get to Ocracoke. No bridges or tunnels or roads go there directly. You will either need to have a private plane or boat, or be a good swimmer (we’re kidding…), or utilize one of the ferries that travel back and forth on a daily basis.

If you hate the idea of shopping, we suggest you “give it a go” on Ocracoke Island. There are no fast food joints or crowded shopping malls to assault your eyes here. “Downtown Ocracoke” is an array of simple stores and shops, and each of them has it’s own style and character. If you need groceries, there are two main variety stores that you can visit. There is a post office available to send a package or postcard back home. If you like flying kites, there is a shop that is dedicated to this sport…and island favorite. Oh, and we just love the relaxing walk through the tree-lined roadway…it’s a nice way to beat the summer heat…

Ocracoke has a historic lighthouse that was built by Noah Porter (a builder from Massachusetts) in 1832. It’s known as the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in North Carolina, as well as the second oldest in the US. It is 75 feet (23 m) tall, and it’s diameter varies from 25 feet (8 m) at the base to 12 feet (3.7 m) at the top. The light from this lighthouse can be seen 14 miles out into the Atlantic. A United States National Park Ranger is on duty during the summer months. When a ranger is on duty you can enter the base of the lighthouse…but no climbing is permitted.

In conclusion, Ocracoke is a great place for your family beach vacations. It has a “feel” about it that is very hard to explain or describe. All we can say is that you will just have to go there and experience it for yourself. Beware though…you may leave your heart behind… :)

If you are interested in Creative Family Beach Vacations, you should definitely check out the article on Ocracoke at www.Creative-Family-Beach-Vacations.com

Arm Moves in Wrestling

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

There are loads of arm moves in wrestling, the most well-known of which are the arm drags, arm swings, arm breakers and over-the-shoulder arm drags. Another one in wrestling is the arm manoeuvre known as the arm-bar take down. The arm bar works by forcing the opponent’s arm downwards.

The challenger feels the strain about the shoulder area and the assailant will grip the arms extending the arms length wise. The shoulder is eventually dropped to the mat. This is a pin in most instances unless the wrestler can wriggle his/her way out of the hold.

The arm breaker manoeuvres include the slamming of the arms, typically on an area of the opponent’s body where it will hurt. Typically, the pin ends with the scissors hold, where the wrestler’s legs are crossed over the challenger’s body, holding his/her shoulders down to the mat.

The various moves look painful in the ring, but the fact is that the moves are fakes, i.e. a showy display to grab attention. The actors rehearse the scenes long before they step into the ring and are trained to send ’signs’ to end the bout when they want to.

The wrestling holds and slams seem serious on television, simply because the cameras and other distractions divert the attention of the viewers. Wrestling is similar to how magicians work. Magicians rehearse their acts before they go on stage. There is always a gimmick or explanation, yet the magician does his act so smoothly and the audience is so distracted, that the magician makes people believe he/she is the real thing.

The ‘arm drags’ involve the assailant getting the opponent in a hook move and then flipping the challenger down onto the mats. Most of the moves are devised by one or the other of the wrestlers and sometimes it may become a popular move and so taken up by others. Two of the older moves are the Gallatin and the Banana Split

The ‘over the shoulder’ move should be called the body slam since the opponent will throw the challenger over his shoulder, slamming him/her onto the mat. At one time, this wrestling move was probably a slammer, but today it is the shoulder-arm throw move.

The ‘wringer; is another of the arm moves in wrestling that is often called the ’spin wrist lock hold’. This move is often followed by the Irish Thrash moves, mallet locks or gouges.

Other arm moves include the arm stretches, arm breakers, arm wringer, arm locks, arm bar and arm scissors. While the arm moves are famous in the ring, there are many new moves today that you would never have heard of when wrestling first began in ancient days. The Amityville Horror is one of wrestling’s more modern moves. Although, I haven’t figured out what this move entails, we are about to look at it together.

At present, from what I can see the Amityville Horror is just a way to persuade people to rent or buy the movie of the same name. I did see the move listed in the list of wrestling moves, however, as of yet, no information is available about what this move entails. Moves are basically brands made up by the wrestlers, so I’m assuming that the wrestler felt he had devised one of the most horrific moves in wrestling, so he gave it the name the Amityville Horror.

Why is it that some moves get roaring applause? Well, it can start when a wrestler in the ring brings in a new manoeuvre and it becomes his signature, popular final manoeuvre in his fights.

Are you interested in wrestling? If you need to learn loads about the moves, the stars and the show, visit our website and catch up on wrestling revealed.
