Decorating for your wedding reception is one of the many things a bride must think about during the wedding planning process. Planning a wedding takes a lot of work, thought and creativity, but in the end it is worth it. It might seem overwhelming at first, but if you take the time to break down everything that needs to be done it will help you a lot.
Before you even begin to think about all of the different decor choices you have you need to decide on a wedding reception location. The place the wedding reception is held will determine your decorations in part by the atmosphere already in place, what decorations they allow and anything they will provide for you.
If you already have the place and know the time of the reception ” as the hours of the reception could affect how easy or difficult it is to decorate, especially if you are having a themed wedding ” you can now start planning the decorations. I suggest that you start with the basics, decide the linens for the tables, the silverware, glassware and china your guests will be using. These simple decisions could mean the difference between a wedding reception which feels elegant and one which is casual.
Now that you know what the food and drink will be served in think about the guests first impression. It is time to decide if the entry room will have an archway or anything else specially decorated that the guests will take notice of when they walk into the room or rooms that the reception will be held in.
Now we are to the centerpieces. Wedding centerpieces can make the whole room like a lot nicer. Flowers, wreathes and candles are always popular choices. These items are especially nice because you can choose them to match the colors of the wedding, the season or the theme of the wedding, if you have one.
Once you decide on the centerpieces for your guest tables, it is time to think about the wedding party table. You can either use the same centerpieces, similar ones but a little nicer (just like how the bride has a bigger bouquet than the bridesmaids, it is perfectly acceptable for the nicest centerpieces to be on the wedding party table), or you can choose to use something completely different and unique.
If you are having a buffet style meal or you have an appetizer table you may also want to decorate that. This can be done with special linens, candles, personal pictures of the bride and groom or using the wedding colors in some way.
If you are decorating the appetizer table, don’t forget the cake table. Flower petals are especially popular for this table as they look so nice surrounding the cake. Don’t forget to have the cake cutting and serving utensils that you picked for this occasion displayed on the table before the cake cutting.
Finally do not forget to think about what type (or level) of lighting will be used as well as incorporating any wedding theme or themes you have chosen into the reception decorations.
